Some residents of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, on Friday staged a protest calling for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation over persistent insecurity.
The protesters, who are predominantly youths, also called on eligible voters to ensure that they get their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video clip making the rounds, the protesters were heard saying, “get your voter cards, Tinubu must go”.
The protesters were also chanting “Give Us Our children”, “Tinubu Must Go”, “Terrorist Must Go, “Bandits Must Go”
The protest triggered by abduction of pupils and teachers at Oriire local government, Ogbomosho zone of Oyo state.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that there were a series of protests across the country on Friday as Nigerians marked the 2026 June 12 Democracy Day.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, activist, Omoyele Sowore and some celebrities led the EndBadGovernance protest in Lagos and Abuja, respectively.

As pressure mount on government over the rescue of the abductees, the Oyo State Police Command revealed that six suspects linked to incident has been arrested.
The suspects were tracked through telephone conversations with the bandits.
Official security reports confirm none of the main bandits hiding in the forest have been arrested yet as they continue to evade tracking.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, those arrested are local informants and couriers, not the core bandits.
