A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Ben Davies, formerly known as Hon. Ben Arulogun, has reportedly gone into hiding following an alleged assassination attempt linked to rising political tensions in the area.
According to Mr Moses Imonode, the personal assistant to the politician, Hon. Davies narrowly escaped attack at his residence located at No. 1, Aiyetoro Road, Ayobo, Alimosho, on Jan. 31, 2026, after unidentified persons allegedly stormed the community in search of him late at night.
According to Hon Isiaka Shodiya, the chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area who was familiar with the development alleged that the incident was connected to the growing political crisis within the local government area, allegedly fuelled by rivalry involving members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties ahead of future political contests.
Hon. Davies is regarded as one of the notable grassroots mobilisers of the PDP in Alimosho
According to the council Boss, Hon Davies contested for the chairmanship position of the local government under the PDP platform during the 2021 local government elections in Lagos State but lost to the APC candidate.
Despite the electoral defeat, associates said he remained politically active and continued campaigns against what he described as poor governance and unfulfilled promises by the ruling party in the council area. He was also said to have declared interest in contesting for the governorship position in Lagos State in November 2025.
Hon. Shodiya explained that political tension escalated on Jan. 31, 2026, when suspected political thugs allegedly attacked members of opposition parties during separate meetings held in parts of Alimosho.
He revealed that violence reportedly began at a scheduled meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) near Pipeline Bus Stop opposite the Idimu Police Station, where armed hoodlums allegedly disrupted the gathering, assaulted attendees and destroyed property including chairs, tables and canopies.
The attackers were also alleged to have moved to another opposition gathering at Egbeda, where similar acts of violence reportedly occurred, Hon. Isiaka noted.
He further alleged that some of the suspected thugs later passed through the PDP secretariat located along Akowonjo Road, warning that opposition political activities would not be tolerated in the area.
It was gathered that Hon. Davies was at the secretariat at the time holding a meeting with members of his political support group and was allegedly warned to discontinue his political mobilisation against the ruling party.
The situation, however, reportedly took a more dangerous turn later that night when suspicious individuals were allegedly seen within Hon. Davies’ neighbourhood asking questions about his whereabouts.
Residents were said to have alerted him while he was attending a political meeting nearby, prompting him to immediately leave the area for safety.
“Since that day, it has been a hide-and-seek situation. He has received repeated advice from family members and political associates to remain in hiding for his safety,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to officially comment on the allegations, while no arrests had reportedly been made in connection with the incidents.
