President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday became the first aspirant to obtain a nomination form from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu, who was represented by the member of the Federal House of Representatives for Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, paid the stipulated sum of N100 million to secure the form within hours of the exercise opening.
The form was presented to Faleke by the party’s national organising secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, at the APC national secretariat.
Faleke, who is also the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups (TSGs), completed the purchase of the forms formally signalling the start of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The APC had set the nomination form fee for presidential aspirants at N100 million, a figure that drew scrutiny from civil society groups even before sales commenced.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced key dates for the 2027 general election.
Presidential and National Assembly elections were scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
INEC also disclosed that party primaries, including the resolution of disputes, will be held between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are set to begin on August 19, 2026, with governorship and state assembly campaigns commencing on September 9, 2026.
More details are expected as the political season unfolds.
As at the time of filing this report, no other aspirant had collected APC presidential form.
