The terrorists who abducted the 176 people in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, have threatened to kill the captives if the Federal Government does not yield to their demands within the next one week.
The traditional ruler of the community, Salihu Bio, whose wife is also in captivity, confirmed the threat in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.
He said the abductees relayed the message after a Jumu’ah prayer session with their captors on Friday.
He said the terrorists expressed frustration over what they described as the government’s lack of seriousness in negotiating the release of the victims, despite the resources being spent to keep them alive.
The terrorists, he added, allowed one of the abductees to call her family on Saturday, and she confirmed that they were all fine and that the Boko Haram members had been teaching them Arabic and Islamic knowledge.
She said that after the Jumu’ah prayer on Friday, the terrorists told them clearly that the government was not taking the matter seriously and that they would marry the women off after a week and kill the weaker ones.
In a related development, no fewer than 29 people have been killed after suspected terrorists attacked the Guyaku community in the Gombi LGA of Adamawa state.
Quoting local officials and community leaders, Reuters reported that the attackers invaded the community late on Sunday and carried out “sporadic shootings for several hours, killing residents and destroying property.”
The report said Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, confirmed the death toll during a visit to Guyaku.
He condoled with bereaved families and described the incident as “tragic and unacceptable.” READ MOREÂ
