Messi Faces $7 Million Lawsuit Over Alleged Breach Of Contract

Argentine football star Lionel Messi is facing a civil lawsuit in the United States after a Miami-based event company accused him of breaching a multimillion-dollar contract linked to an international exhibition match.

The lawsuit was filed by VID Music Group in a Miami-Dade circuit court, naming Messi and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) as defendants over alleged violations connected to a $7 million promotional agreement.

According to court filings, the company claims it secured exclusive promotional rights to organise Argentina’s friendly matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico in October last year, with expectations that Messi would feature in the games for a minimum period unless injury prevented his participation.

VID Music Group alleges that Messi did not appear in the Venezuela friendly held in Florida, a decision it says was communicated too late and contributed to significant financial losses, including reduced ticket sales and lower-than-expected attendance.

Messi was reportedly present at the match in a private suite at Hard Rock Stadium, despite not taking part on the pitch. The company claims this absence had a direct impact on commercial performance and fan turnout.

The following day, Messi featured for his Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF in a league match, where he scored twice in a 4–0 victory over Atlanta United, further intensifying questions raised in the lawsuit regarding his availability.

The complaint also references another Argentina fixture during the same period, arguing that scheduling and appearance expectations formed part of the commercial agreement tied to the promotional deal.

VID Music Group has not disclosed the total damages it is seeking but maintains that losses run into several million dollars due to unmet contractual expectations and weaker-than-anticipated ticket demand.

Messi and the AFA have not yet publicly responded to the allegations contained in the lawsuit.Legal proceedings are ongoing, and no court ruling has been issued.
