FLASH: Anambra Govt Arrests Popular Native Doctor 'Aka Mmuo'

Authorities in Anambra State have arrested a well-known native doctor based in Nnewi, popularly identified as De Young Chief Priest, also known by the traditional title “Aka Mmuo Mmiri Afulu Anya,” over alleged involvement in unlawful activities.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended by security operatives on Thursday, March 12, 2026, as part of an ongoing effort by the state government to clamp down on individuals suspected of using traditional practices to aid criminal operations.

Sources indicate that the arrest is connected to a broader crackdown targeting certain traditionalists and self-proclaimed spiritual practitioners accused of preparing charms and protective rituals believed to be used by criminal gangs operating within the state.

Local media reports say the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation by security agencies as investigators work to determine the extent of his alleged activities.

According to a report by the Anambra State Broadcasting Service, authorities have not yet released comprehensive details regarding the specific offences linked to the native doctor. Officials, however, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and more information may be made public once preliminary findings are concluded.

The arrest comes amid renewed efforts by the Anambra State Government to tackle rising concerns about the role of some traditional practitioners in enabling crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and ritual-related offences.
