The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, on Friday night held an emergency meeting with members of his cabinet and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to deliberate on the political direction of the state.
Sources at the meeting disclosed that discussions centered on the prevailing political climate and strategic decisions ahead of future engagements.
At the end of the deliberations, stakeholders reportedly recommended that the governor consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of efforts to reposition the state politically.
Further details surrounding the governorās final decision were not immediately available as of press time.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa formally joined the ruling APC yesterday.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri said his cabinet and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have moved with him to the APC.
The announcement lays to rest speculation on the governorās plan to defect to the ruling party.
Earlier in the week, 15 lawmakers of the Adamawa state house of assembly, including Bathiya Wesley, speaker of the house, and Buba Jijiwa, his deputy, resigned from the PDP.
The lawmakers attributed their defections to the ālingering crisisā in the PDP.
With Fintiriās defection, the PDP is now left with three governors. If Governor Lawal leaves, PDP will only be with Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi.
