A man, Wasiu, has dragged his wife, Memunat, before Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, stating that she was troublesome and had no trust in him.
Wasiu explained that despite doting on Memunat and showing her love and affection, she still believed he was involved in extra marital affairs.
The plaintiff stated that the defendant was in the habit of going through his phone when he was asleep.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant would call the phone numbers of his female customers, abuse, and threaten them.
Wasiu stated that he had lost quite a number of clients as a result of his wife’s irrational behaviour.
He added that the more he cautioned his wife, the worse she became.
Wasiu further said that his wife fought him at every given opportunity, thus making his life miserable.
Wasiu said that Memunat had caused him enough embarrassment and thus prayed the court to rule that they go their different ways.
Memunat was absent in court even though she was served court summonses.
Wasiu, in his evidence, said, “My wife and I have been married for 20 years.
“We met in 2006 and held an introduction ceremony after which she started living with me, although I did not pay her bride price.
“Our marriage is blessed with three children.
“I have always stayed committed to my wife and never stopped lavishing attention on her because I loved her.
“I go out of my way to please my wife and make her comfortable because I cherished her, but she failed to believe in me.
“My wife is troublesome and always read meaning into all that I did.
“She would fight me for no just cause and this has brought a strain into our relationship.
“My lord, my wife is fond of going through my phone when I am asleep.
“She would call the phone numbers of female customers on my phone, abuse and threaten them.
“I have lost many clients and this apart from being subjected to ridicule because of her shameful behaviour.
“She has seized my phone and refused to release it despite interventions from our family members.
“My wife is obviously unreasonable and difficult to deal with.
“I am tired of her and also fed up with our relationship.
“I earnestly pray that this honourable court dissolve our union since she lacks trust in me.”
The court president, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, adjourned the case until March 3 for further hearing .
