Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been formally charged with sexual conduct offences in Norway, a case that could result in a jail term if he is found guilty.
The 18-year-old, who plays for Molde in the Norwegian top-flight, was charged following investigations into an incident reported to authorities in late April 2025.
Molde confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that both the player and the club have cooperated fully with investigators.
According to the club, Daga has been informed of the charges and has been withdrawn from training and match activities indefinitely.
“After the end of the season, Daniel traveled home in connection with the team’s planned vacation. Daniel and the club have agreed that he will return to Norway ahead of the legal proceedings,” the statement said.
Molde chairman Odd Ivar Moen described the allegations as serious, stressing the need for due process. “This is a serious matter, and we take the charges very seriously. It is important that the case receives a thorough and fair treatment in the legal system,” he said, adding that the club would not comment further while legal proceedings are ongoing.
Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the midfielder does not admit guilt. She explained that while her client acknowledges a sexual encounter took place, he insists it was consensual and denies any wrongdoing. She also stated that there is no suspicion of violence or threats involved in the case.
Daga is expected to appear before the Nordmore and Romsdal District Court in March 2026 after his holiday in Nigeria.
The young midfielder featured for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the team exited in the second round following a 4-0 defeat to Argentina.
He joined Molde in January 2025 and has made 18 appearances across the Norwegian League and the Europa Conference League.
