The Ogun State leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Axis, the apex student body in Ogun State alongside the Student Union Presidents of various institutions who are the custodian of their campus has commended the Governor of Ogun State for his dedication to improving the welfare of the people.
This affirmation was issued by Comrade Gabriel Abiola Francis, Chairman of NANS Ogun, during a world press conference convened to address recent developments and clarify the association’s official position.
Comrade Francis formally distanced the association from Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ogun State on Students’ Matters, who has been allegedly accused of impersonating the Ogun NANS JCC leadership and misrepresenting the organization.
He stated that Azeez has repeatedly acted without authorization issuing letters, making unsolicited representations, and misleading stakeholders while disguising these actions under the cover of his governmental office.
The leadership further alleged that the Special Assistant has deliberately created divisions between NANS and key government officials, including the Commissioner representing the students’ constituency. Azeez was also accused of parading former NANS executives as current office holders for personal gain and diverting resources or benefits meant for the association. According to the Chairman, several allocations supposedly sent to NANS Ogun Axis were never delivered or were misappropriated under his supervision. We want to appreciate the government for channeling the rice palliative palliative from the Dangote directly to each campus. This is the first time the students across all our campuses benefited directly from the government consider to the time past when everything is being handed over to comrade Adeyemi Azeez.
NANS Ogun State Axis also alleged Azeez of diverting palliatives, welfare items, and resources released by the Governor specifically for Students’ Union President and recognized stakeholders while indicting the Governor of not releasing any palliative to the students constituency claiming the SSG, Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Education blocked it from getting to the students. These items were allegedly redirected to advance his personal gain rather than reaching the intended beneficiaries. This misconduct, they stressed, has contributed to growing mistrust, hardship, and unnecessary tension within the student community.
The association condemned the Special Assistant’s intimidation of heads of institutions and his alleged use of the Governor’s name to force compliance with his directives. They further cited several incidents in which he reportedly misled student leaders into attacking or publicly confronting senior government officials, traditionally rulers including the Secretary to the State Government and Senator Shuaibu Salisu based on false information crafted to serve his personal interests.
The leadership also highlighted numerous allegations of orchestrated violence and disruptions in institutions such as MAPOLY and other locations. It was further claimed that Azeez has caused attacks and harassment against reputable individuals and student leaders who refused to align with him. Additionally, his practice of issuing deceptive letters to institutions in the name of hosting student leaders while using such opportunities for personal gain was strongly condemned.
NANS emphasized that Azeez is a political appointee, not an executive of NANS Ogun State Axis, and should not be recognized as a representative of the students. They called on security agencies, including the DSS and the police, to investigate past attacks on student leaders and political leaders even from his local government and all reported abuses of power. The association added that the Special Assistant frequently boasts of acting under direct instruction from the Governor and claiming to be the only anointed son of the Governor among other appointees, a claim they believe requires thorough verification.
In conclusion, Comrade Francis raised concerns over alleged plans to attack him and other student leaders for choosing to stand for truth and transparency. He appealed to security agencies to remain alert and ensure protection for all student leaders committed to genuine advocacy. He also apologized to the public and the student community for any past inconveniences caused by actions tied to the Special Assistant’s personal and selfish interests.
