PDP Insists On November 15 National Convention, Says APC Behind Party Crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that its national convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State, will hold as scheduled, despite court orders halting it.

In a statement by its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, on Wednesday, the party urged members and the public to “disregard misleading claims being peddled to the contrary by some individuals who, it has been revealed, are recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its failed attempt to stop the PDP national convention.

The party said, “The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) informs all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.’’

The opposition further accused the APC of attempting to destabilise the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country, “adding such design would be lawfully resisted.’’

Thanking Nigerians for their support, the party promised to continue to work assiduously round the clock to ensure a successful convention.

“While thanking Nigerians for their overwhelming support for our party, the NCOC welcomes all delegates, party leaders, officials and all supporters of the PDP who have already started arriving in Ibadan for the national convention,” the statement added.

The opposition’s party decision to continue with the convention came despite two court orders, from Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu of the Abuja High Court, Abuja Division, stopping the process until the opposition met certain conditions.

However, Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo high court granted an ex parte order allowing the PDP to go ahead with the convention as planned.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday declared the opposition party ‘dead,’ predicting more defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
