Hoodlums Burgle Ghanaian Envoy’s Residence In Abuja, Police Begin Probe

Some yet-to-be-identified hoodlums have burgled the official residence of the Ghanaian Ambassador to Nigeria, carting away valuables, including television sets, gas cylinders, and bags of rice.

The incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday, July 11, at the ambassador’s residence located in the highbrow Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Sources at the residence told our correspondent that the intruders gained access through the back of the compound after cutting through the protective wire on the fence.

They also reportedly damaged the back door of the house to force their way in.

When our reporter visited the scene on Saturday, the portion of the fence breached by the burglars was cordoned off with a crime scene tape.

Recounting the incident, one of the domestic staff at the residence said the power outage around the time of the break-in might have aided the criminals.

“That day around 2am, they took light, so I went to the back to switch on the generator. About 10 minutes later, electricity was restored, so I went back to turn off the generator,” the staff member narrated.

“Around 5am, I went around to check and saw that a window was open. One of the burglary proof rods had been removed. I checked the back door and it was also open.

“I then noticed where the wires on the fence had been cut. That was when I called the police officer on duty from his room. They took away two plasma TV sets, gas cylinders, and two bags of rice.”
