TikTok Shocks Content Creators, Removes 3.6 Million Nigerian Videos

Short video platform TikTok has intensified its efforts to eliminate offensive content globally, including in Nigeria.

In the first quarter of 2025, the company removed over 3.6 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users for violating its content guidelines. Globally, 211 million videos were taken down during the same period.

This data comes from TikTok’s Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, which emphasizes the platform’s commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and trustworthy digital space.

The 3.6 million removals from Nigeria reflect a 50% increase from the previous quarter, when 2.4 million videos were taken down. TikTok reported a proactive detection rate of 98.4%, meaning most of the content was removed before users could report it. Additionally, 92.1% of videos were removed within 24 hours of being posted.
