Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has revealed that his predecessor and immediate past Governor of the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, is working underground for the actualisation of the presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and not President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as he claimed.
Chief Ortom had declared his unflinching support for the Southern Presidency, particularly for Tinubu’s re-election bid as a result of his firm belief in fairness and equity.
He noted that the immediate past President of the country, Late Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled for eight interrupted years, was a Northerner.
To Chief Ortom, it would be unfair to the South if he started supporting another Northerner in 2023.
But speaking with journalists at the government house in Makurdi, Governor Alia said that Chief Ortom was only lying to Nigerians about his support for Tinubu, stressing that he (Ortom) was working for Mr Obi underground.
Governor Alia, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said: “Ortom is stealthily working for Peter Obi”.
The Governor said when the NDC presidential candidate was attacked in Makurdi, Ortom swiftly brought in his SUV, which conveyed Obi away from the scene of the incident.
Alia alleged that he has pictorial evidence to buttress his assertion.
He described Ortom’s alliance with former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, to wrestle power from him in 2027 as a wild goose chase.
Governor Alia berated the Ortom administration as a bunch of eight wasted years that saw no meaningful development.
“There were no infrastructural projects; the administration witnessed no development at the local government level; salaries were not paid to civil servants as and when due; pensioners were denied entitlements”.
He said Ortom was using Chief Aondoakaa to bounce back to power and advised the people of the state to reject the PDP during the forthcoming general elections.
