The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, was arrested by operatives attached to the B Division, Amansea, during a security patrol in the area in the early hours of Wednesday.
The police also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to threaten a hotel guest and dispossess her of her valuables.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to B Division, Amansea, in the early hours of September 2, 2026, during a security patrol, arrested Udochukwu Nwankwo, a 16-year-old male suspect, in connection with an alleged armed robbery incident in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
“The operatives also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed in the semblance of a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to threaten and dispossess the victim of her valuables.
“Preliminary information revealed that the suspect, alongside two other accomplices who are currently at large, allegedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and snatched her mobile phone and other personal belongings.
“During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to using the recovered object to threaten victims during the robbery.”
Ikenga said the command had intensified its investigation and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He added that the police were also working to recover the stolen mobile phone and other valuables and bring all those found culpable to justice.
