128-year-old Nigerian Man Seeks Recognition As World’s Oldest Living Person

Residents, visitors and well-wishers from different parts of Nigeria have continued to troop to Umuchoke village in Obazu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, to celebrate and honour Pa Anyiam Onyegbule, believed to be 128 years old.

The atmosphere in the quiet community has remained festive, as admirers gather daily at the centenarian’s home to shower him with gifts, cash and goodwill messages in recognition of his extraordinary longevity and healthy lifestyle.

Community members described the elderly man as a symbol of grace, strength and divine favour.

Despite his age, Pa Onyegbule is said to still walk without assistance, read without glasses and maintain sharp memory.

Family members and visitors said the old man enjoys healthy meals, interacts freely with people and even discusses football matches with remarkable accuracy.

Many who visited his home expressed amazement at his physical appearance and mental alertness, describing him as “a living miracle.”

GISTSMATE MEDIA learnt that during his 128th birthday celebration on March 9, Nigerians from different walks of life reportedly besieged his home to honour him.

The member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Innocent Ikpamezie, was among dignitaries who attended the event and presented gifts, including a cash donation of N500,000 to the elderly man.

Speaking on the growing attention surrounding the centenarian, activist and founder of Stand for Humanity Foundation, Chidiebube Okeoma, called on Guinness World Records to officially recognise Pa Onyegbule as the world’s oldest living person.

He said documents available to the family indicated that the elderly man was born on March 9, 1898, adding that it would be fair for global authorities to acknowledge the Nigerian centenarian.

He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Hope Uzodimma to honour the old man with national and state recognition for what he described as an exceptional gift of longevity.

“I urge President Tinubu and Governor Uzodimma to honour Pa Onyegbule with national and state awards and name a monumental project in his honour. It is a way of thanking God for the gift of longevity to the old man,” Okeoma said.
