Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for lifting the state of emergency in Rivers State, describing the move as a bold step that has restored democratic governance and renewed confidence in leadership.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said the President’s decision underscored his unwavering commitment to peace and the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
“President Tinubu has once again demonstrated his total commitment to peace and sustenance of democracy in the country. His proactive action has saved Rivers State,” the FCT Minister stated.
He noted that the intervention has further strengthened the trust of Rivers people in the President’s leadership and ongoing efforts to return Nigeria to the path of progress and development.
Wike also praised the resilience of Rivers residents throughout the period of emergency rule.
“I commend the people of Rivers State for their belief in the President and their continuous support for him in his tireless efforts to return the country to the path of progress and development,” he said.
Calling for unity among political actors, the former Rivers governor urged stakeholders to set aside differences and work together in the collective interest of the state.
“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress, and development,” Wike assured.
The FCT Minister also issued a stern warning to troublemakers, particularly what he described as “fifth columnists” seeking to profit from political instability.
“I call on all stakeholders in the State to work harmoniously. Those who thrive on crisis should stay away because the time for peace and development in Rivers has come,” he declared.
The emergency rule in Rivers, proclaimed in March 2025, formally ended at midnight on September 17 following President Tinubu’s directive, allowing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the House of Assembly to resume their constitutional duties.
