Iran has said it is willing to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism, describing the country as a partner facing similar security challenges.
The Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, made this known in an interview with ARISE TV while commenting on Nigeria’s security situation and the activities of insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
He said Iran condemns terrorism in all its forms and is open to working with countries battling insurgency.
“Iran condemns terrorism of any kind and expresses readiness to cooperate with governments facing it,” the ambassador said.
Raja noted that Nigeria continues to grapple with serious security threats from terrorist groups operating in some parts of the country.
“Nigeria faces security challenges from Boko Haram and ISWAP, and we are ready to support the government in combating terrorism,” Raja said.
He added that Iran’s stance is influenced by its own experience with terrorist attacks, describing the country as a victim of terrorism.
“As a victim of terrorism ourselves, we condemn terrorism in Nigeria,” he stated.
Raja also stressed the need for cooperation among countries facing similar security threats, noting that such collaboration is vital to addressing global terrorism and strengthening security.
