Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has opposed a move by United States Senator Ted Cruz to stop Sharia laws in Nigeria.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Cruz, in a post on X while reacting to Nigeria’s designation by President Donald Trump, hinted at his bill “targeting those who implement blasphemy and Sharia laws in Nigeria.”
However, angered by the post, Bashir, who served as media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, questioned why the US Senator would target those who implement Sharia law in Nigeria.
According to him, the lawmaker has no jurisdiction to oppose Sharia law in Nigeria, stating that the country will “defend” its sovereignty.
He wrote, “So a US senator is now proudly declaring they will target those who helped implement Sharia law in Nigeria, as if practicing or supporting Sharia is a crime.
“You are free to oppose Sharia in your own country, but you have no jurisdiction to dictate the laws of ours.
“We will defend our sovereignty and our right to determine our own legal affairs.”
