Researchers have officially verified a female reticulated python measuring 7.22 metres (23 feet 8 inches) as the longest wild snake ever recorded, following a detailed scientific assessment in Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The python, discovered in the Maros region in late 2025, was carefully measured on January 18, 2026, by wildlife researchers Diaz Nugraha and Radu Frentiu.
The measurement, taken from head to tail, confirmed the reptile’s record-breaking size and has since been recognised by Guinness World Records.
The snake, nicknamed Ibu Baron, meaning “The Baroness,” belongs to the reticulated python species, already known as the longest snake species in the world.
Experts say her size and healthy condition highlight the ecological richness of Sulawesi’s natural habitats.
Following the verification, the python has been placed under the care of local conservationist Budi Purwanto, with ongoing monitoring to ensure her safety and promote coexistence between wildlife and surrounding communities.
Conservationists stress that the discovery is a scientific and environmental milestone, underscoring the importance of habitat protection, biodiversity preservation, and responsible human-wildlife interaction.
The video documenting the measurement process has drawn global attention, offering rare insight into wildlife research and conservation efforts in Southeast Asia.
