Ajara Lasisi, the Nigerian actress popularly known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba film industry, has been laid to rest.
The death of Aunty Ajara was confirmed by her elder brother Ridwan Lasisi on Thursday.
According to Islamic rites, her burial took place a few hours after her death, beginning with salatul janaza, the funeral prayer, which was attended by family members, friends and fans.
Her body was subsequently laid to rest by a group of men, including her elder brother.
However, the location of her burial is unknown.
The actress’ health struggles became public knowledge last week after a public appeal for support was shared by her colleague Ronke Oshodi-Oke.
Oshodi Oke revealed that Lasisi had been hospitalised in critical condition and placed on oxygen, adding that her health continued to deteriorate despite intensive medical care and the financial burden involved.
Another actress, Mama No Network, also disclosed that Aunty Ajara had been diagnosed with liver related complications and was reportedly pregnant at the time.
Aunty Ajara was celebrated for her compelling and often maternal roles in terrestrial-themed stories. She graced the screen in numerous popular films, including ‘Gingerrr’, ‘Queen Lateefah’, and ‘Isiti’.
Last year, the actress shared a personal tragedy, revealing that she had once lost a child.
