The students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin Campus have staged protest over negligence from their lecturers, increment in hotel and course materials fees.
The students on Monday, 20th of January held a peaceful demonstration at Oremoje area of Iseyin.
Recall that Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has moved the Faculty of Agricultural and Faculty of Renewable Resources of LAUTECH to Iseyin.
The students lamented that most of their lecturers don’t come to class, the manual fee has also been increased.
One of the students who spoke with our correspondent said some lecturers do come to class just once to cover 5 to 6 chapters, or even a whole manual.
He said:
“They (lecturers) are not taking our farm year serious, we are just wasting transport fare everyday without doing anything. Hostel fee has been increased, harassment from indigene.
“Imagine, a lecturer will come to class in a day to cover 7 chapters, some times, a whole manual. The Government should intervene on our behalf”, the student told our correspondent.
Also, one of the indigenes of Iseyin, who is an Elder and passionate about the students’ welfare said many lecturers are not willing to stay in the community.
He disclosed that it’s hard to see a lecturer who stays in Iseyin permanently or spends more than 2 days.
“Most of the lecturers are not ready to work, they don’t stay nor live in Iseyin. It’s hard to see a lecturer who stays for 2 days. They shuttled between Ogbomosho and Iseyin”, he said.
He also tagged the Iseyin caretakers and house agents as devilish, causing more hardship to the students.
