Media personality Daddy Freeze has shared his perspective on the ongoing debate involving Wizkid and Seun Kuti, strongly cautioning against comparing the Afrobeats star to Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Speaking in a video posted on Instagram, Daddy Freeze praised Wizkid’s talent, describing him as a superstar, skilled musician, and songwriter, whom he called a “living legend” deserving of major recognition in Nigerian music.
However, he insisted that Fela occupies a completely different place in history.
“Don’t ever compare Wizkid to Fela,” he said. “Fela is our father in the music world. Fela was not just a superstar musician. Fela was a freedom fighter.”
Daddy Freeze argued that Fela’s legacy goes far beyond music, stressing that the late icon physically confronted state power, endured imprisonment, and placed his life on the line in his activism.
According to him, while Wizkid’s musical influence is undeniable, equating him with Fela diminishes the depth of Fela’s sacrifice and social impact.
“Wizkid is a living legend,” he added, “but not with Fela. It is because of Fela that people like us exist. The agitation and the music went hand in glove.”
