Police in Bangkok have arrested eight Nigerian men and a Thai woman after disguising themselves as construction workers during a late-night drug bust in the city’s Nana area.
The operation took place around midnight on Sukhumvit 11 Road in Watthana district following complaints from residents and tourists about drug peddlers and pickpockets harassing people in the area.
Deputy Bangkok Police Chief, Maj. Gen. Theeradet Thumsuthee, said about 40 plainclothes officers took part in the sting, blending in as a team of concrete workers before quietly moving in on the suspects.
Authority said the suspects, aged between 23 and 41, were caught red-handed.
Police recovered two small packets of cocaine weighing about four grammes and said more drugs were likely hidden in the suspects’ bodies.
