President Donald Trump posted a photo Saturday of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in custody on a US naval ship and wearing both a blindfold and handcuffs.
âNicolas Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima,â Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, along with a picture showing Maduro hours after he was snatched by US forces.
The Venezuelan leader had on what appeared to be noise-canceling ear muffs and grey Nike-branded sweatpants and a jacket.
GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that Trump said Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife have been âcaptured and flown out of the countryâ.
In a Truth Social post shared only moments ago, Trump wrote:
The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.
In a defiant video that was posted online, Venezuelaâs defence minister, Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez, accused the US of launching a âdeplorableâ and âcriminalâ regime change operation and said the âbarbaricâ invading forces had âdesecrated our sacred landâ.
âThis invasion represents the greatest outrage the country has ever suffered,â Gen Padrino LĂłpez declared, adding that Venezuelan authorities were still trying to calculate how many civilians had been killed or injured during helicopter attacks in urban areas.
