Troops Kill ‘8 ISWAP Terrorists’, Recover 14 Motorcycles In Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (north-east), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have reportedly killed eight Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno state.

NAN quoted a military source as saying the encounter occurred early Monday near Garin Giwa along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route (MSR) as the insurgents attempted to disrupt military operations.

The source said the terrorists met stiff resistance from the troops, resulting in the death of eight fighters, including two Munzirs and one Qaid.

“The identified fighters include Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, another unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota,” the source said.

“Several others sustained gunshot wounds, particularly those who fled on foot, abandoning 14 motorcycles which were recovered by troops.”

The source added that the theatre command remains committed to eradicating terrorism in the north-east and restoring peace to affected communities.

Last month, troops killed more than 35 ISWAP terrorists in a coordinated operation around Kumshe, a border community in Borno.

The operation occurred after the ISWAP fighters attempted to attack military positions in Kumshe.
