‘Totally Anti-social’ — NCSCN Faults ‘Toxic Stunts’ In VDM, King Mitchy Row

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has waded into the viral social media feud between activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Mitchelle Mukoro, a philanthropist known as King Mitchy.

The conflict intensified after Mitchy showcased her recent project — renovating a school in just six days. She also questioned VDM’s transparency in handling public donations he has received since the start of 2025.

The situation took a dramatic turn when VDM alleged that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, was the hidden hand funding Mitchy’s goodwill projects.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Blessing Akinlosotu, executive director of NCSCN, condemned the escalation that dragged Seyi into the controversy, warning of its toxic implications for society.

Akinlosotu described VDM and Mitchy as recognised civil society figures whose past efforts the council had applauded; in some cases, he had criticised their handling of the dispute as immature and damaging.

He said the NCSCN holds VDM primarily responsible for initiating and escalating the crisis by focusing undue criticism on Seyi’s financial support for Mitchy’s humanitarian work, using vulgar language.

“It is in this light that NCSCN outrightly condemns the views or reaction of VDM to the donation made by Seyi Tinubu to King Mitchy, which is just one out of the numerous supports she receives for her humanitarian services,” Akinlosotu said.

“The council is still lost as to why the Very Dark Man chose to go this route, which has now become traditional for him whenever the name of Seyi Tinubu is mentioned.

“The numerous philanthropic gestures of Seyi Tinubu to many Nigerians and organisations within the youth, students and civil society groups are highly commendable and unprecedented by any son of a president so far in the history of Nigeria, and this must be encouraged rather than dampened.”

The NCSCN executive director faulted Mitchy for exhibiting “immaturity, inexperience and lack of emotional intelligence”, particularly her livestream stunt of purportedly drinking a poisonous substance (Hypo).

He said the core issue is not the donations themselves but the selective demonisation of Seyi.

According to him, such attacks risk discouraging legitimate private support for charitable causes, urging activists to prioritise patriotism, professionalism, and national interest over personal agendas.

He called on both parties to apologise to Nigerians for the toxic content and exercise restraint, while advising all content creators to prioritise mental health, national security, and development in their output.

He also urged regulatory bodies, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), to intensify scrutiny of social media content and impose sanctions where necessary.
