In a dramatic turn of events, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday ordered the recall of top executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), reversing management changes that had unsettled Africa’s largest TV network.
The President directed the immediate return of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General of the NTA.
Dembos, who was first appointed in October 2023, had briefly vacated his position following new appointments at the station. With this directive, he will now resume office to complete his three-year tenure.
Also recalled is Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, who had been replaced in the reshuffle.
Adewuyi, appointed by President Tinubu in 2024, has now been reinstated to serve until 2027 when his tenure is due to expire.
The President’s move effectively nullifies the recent announcement of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“The new directive effectively reversed the previously announced appointments,” Onanuga said, adding that both Dembos and Adewuyi had been recalled to complete their statutory three-year terms.
The surprise reversal has sent ripples across the broadcasting industry, raising questions about the circumstances that led to the sudden changes and their swift cancellation
