Tinubu Flags Off Nigeria’s Largest Tractor Rollout To Boost Food Production

President Bola Tinubu has launched a major agricultural initiative involving the rollout of over 2,000 modern tractors and thousands of other farming equipment.

The programme, unveiled on Monday in Sheda, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, is part of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme aimed at modernising Nigeria’s farming sector.

Speaking at the launch, President Tinubu described the event as the beginning of an agricultural rebirth.

He said the initiative is a crucial step toward making Nigeria a global agricultural leader, improving food supply, empowering young people, and creating sustainable jobs across the country.

The deployment includes advanced farming tools, mobile workshops, heavy-duty land preparation machines, and spare parts, all designed to improve farming efficiency and reduce food shortages.

Tinubu emphasized that the government would closely monitor how the equipment is used across the states to ensure accountability and results.

He also highlighted international collaboration, especially with Belarus, in securing the agricultural machinery.

The President stated that the initiative is not just about equipment, but about changing the future of Nigerian farming.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to boosting food production, creating green jobs, and making agriculture more appealing to the youth.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the programme is the largest agricultural mechanisation rollout in Nigeria’s history.

According to him, it is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of hectares of land into active cultivation, significantly increase food production, and generate thousands of jobs nationwide.

Kyari explained that the programme also features GPS tracking of equipment, interest-free financing, structured repayment plans, and mandatory training for both operators and technicians.

He noted that key research and training institutions are being supported to build the capacity needed for long-term success.

The minister concluded by saying that this initiative represents a major shift in Nigeria’s agricultural story—from small-scale, manual farming to a more modern, technology-driven approach with real impact on food supply, economic growth, and youth engagement.
