The Time Is Now: John Cena Officially Retires From The WWE

The time is finally now longer now, contrary to what the ever iconic rap song may say. John Cena has finally exited the ring for one last time, marking his retirement from the WWE on a loss.

The match against Gunther took place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. and saw Cena take and give a beating.

Amongst the fight, Cena gave one last ‘You Can’t See Me’ move to the delight of those in attendance and had the night feeling like the series finale of a decade spanning show, with some fans even declaring the WWE over.

This match has not gone without controversy, with fans attacking WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, himself a retired legendary wrestler, for letting Cena go out on a loss.

In response, Triple H is acting more like his wrestler self than a CCO stating “You do what’s right for this business. And I’m gonna do that my entire career, what I believe is right for this business.” He pokes fun at the audience’s disappointment saying “I’m actually mildly disappointed. I thought it would be so much louder.”

ESPN describes the move as a tradition for legendary wrestlers to submit on a loss, flourishing in new talent. Fans don’t see it that way, with audiences even booing the winner Gunther as he left the venue.

What isn’t up for discussion however is the legendary career Cena has had as a wrestler, his upcoming career as an actor, and his influence as a person. There is a reason the star is as beloved as he is.

John Cena will now transition into a career as an actor, where he currently plays the role of Christopher Smith / Peacemaker in James Gunn’s DC Universe, Jakob Toretto in The Fast and Furious franchise. He will next appear in Coyote vs Acme, Matchbox, Little Brother, and Fast X Part II.
