Senator Abdulaziz Yari representing Zamfara West, has cautioned Nigerians against seeking help from US President Donald Trump on the country’s security challenges.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the flag-off of the One Nigeria Project organised by the National Association of Former Local Government Council Chairmen (NALGON), Yari said no foreign leader can solve Nigeria’s problems.
His words: “Stop calling on Trump. Trump has no business in Nigeria. The problems of Nigeria will be solved by Nigerians.”
Yari said growing frustration over insecurity has led some citizens to believe an outsider could rescue the situation, a mindset he described as “misguided and dangerous”.
He said Nigeria’s political elite must take responsibility for ensuring the country does not “go down”, noting that if things fall apart, there is no other home to run to.
The senator said he carries only a Nigerian passport, unlike some elites, whom he accused of prioritising other countries over their own.
Yari also pushed for greater autonomy and funding for local councils, arguing that they are best positioned to respond to insecurity at the grassroots.
