STANDING FIRM IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY: A VOICE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE

As a steadfast advocate for human rights and community development, I have faced numerous challenges, yet I remained undeterred. Recently, I was summoned by the Intelligence section of the Oyo Police Headquarters in response to a petition filed by the legislative head in the State, Adebo Ogundoyin. The petition alleges cyberbullying, false accusations, and other offenses stemming from my criticism and a past article, titled “Adebo Ogundoyin And Ibarapa’s Speakership: A Dummy Swapped For Gold,” published on November 14, 2024. In the article, I highlighted the perceived ineffectiveness of the Speaker in representing Ibarapa’s interests.

I understand that the term “dummy” might be perceived as provocative, but I used it to illustrate the stark contrast between expectations and reality. Political or public office holders must be ready to receive such especially when they are working least to their manifesto. As a radical activist, my goal is to spark meaningful discussions and push for positive change. Nothing can ever discourage me in my plight and advocacy for the masses’ interest. I strongly believe in what conscience dictates, rather than the wages that could be acquired through the oppression of the masses, therefore it’s very hard for us to compromise.

As we navigate the complexities of governance and accountability, the use of figurative language becomes a powerful tool in conveying the nuances of our experience. Permit me to explain some of the several metaphors and phrases used in the colouration of this article, adding depth, complexity, and emotion to the narrative.

“A dummy swapped for gold” is a potent metaphor that highlights the stark contrast between expectations and reality. It underscores the perceived ineffectiveness of the Speaker, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in governance.

It’s important to understand that the figurative expressions used in the context is used to enrich the literary work by adding depth and complexity to the narrative, creating vivid imagery, conveying nuanced ideas and themes, and engaging readers. By incorporating these expressions, this article becomes a more compelling and thought-provoking work of art, challenging readers to think critically about the issues at hand.

Most importantly, we must revisit some of the issues raised quickly.

The article which was published in November 2024 raised several issues, including:

Marginalization and Ibarapa’s Unmet Needs: Ibarapa has been neglected in terms of development projects, with many initiatives either abandoned or unimplemented.

The Speaker’s office has failed to effectively oversee the executive’s actions, leading to potential malfeasance and mismanagement of public resources. What happened to the New Garage/Isaba/Isale-elesin road road since it has been approved? Who was the contractor and why was the road abandoned since it gained approval?

Resources have been unfairly allocated, with other zones receiving more attention than Ibarapa. While other zones were awarded stadium renovations, our zone was absolutely left out.

Projects awarded through favoritism and excessive lack of fairness. How close are the contractors to the person referenced? Who secured the contracts, for who and how? These are the questions we should ask.

To substantiate my claims, I have compiled and analyzed specific examples and data that demonstrate a concerning pattern of neglect and potential extortion in the development of Ibarapa East Constituency. These include:

Abandoned Projects: Several development projects initiated in Ibarapa have been abandoned, leaving communities without the promised benefits. For instance, the abandoned Isaba and New Garage-Poly-Aborerin road construction projects, stalled healthcare facilities stampeding the renovation of General Hospital, and unfinished educational infrastructure related to Baptist Day School (SUBEB-Project), are stark reminders of the neglect.

Unfulfilled Promises: The Speaker’s office has made numerous promises to the people of the constituents, but many of these promises remain unfulfilled. This has led to widespread disillusionment and mistrust among the populace. Promises such as quarterly town hall meetings, quarterly bursary disbursement to tertiary institution students and more.

Disparities in Infrastructure Development: A comparative analysis of infrastructure development in Ibarapa versus other zones reveals significant disparities. While other areas have received substantial investments in roads, healthcare, education, and other critical infrastructure, Ibarapa has been largely overlooked. The substandard execution of contracts in the jurisdiction of the Speaker remains reoccurring.

Allegations of Personal Benefits: Serious allegations had surfaced which suggests that the Speaker may have personally benefited from certain projects. These allegations imply a conflict of interest and potential corruption, which warrant thorough investigation and transparency. However, it might be indirectly lobbied through associates or families members to distract the public.

After the article was published last year, some changes were felt in the system as the speaker accelerated moves which has inwardly germinated benefits to the constituents. Employment opportunities facilitated through the support of the Speaker in the Civil Service Commission, OYTHMA, Primary Health Care Board, TESCOM/SUBEB, and Amotekun were done after the article was published.

Recall that the Speaker never reckon with his party men after election but after the charges, he transformed a new leaf, the flag-off of Eruwa Agribusiness Hub were some of the progress that surfaced after the article. As little as it was, the changes were felt compared to the days when we couldn’t point at one.

Responsively, I have equipped my mindset to provide a comprehensive and fact-based explanation of my actions and the context surrounding my unrelenting gospel. I am confident that a thorough examination will reveal that my intentions were genuine and my criticisms were grounded in observable facts.

Nevertheless, I urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and actively engaged in holding our leaders accountable for their actions. Collective effort and participation are essential in building a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.

To those who would seek to suppress our voices, I emphasize that our collective voice will not be stifled. We will continue to speak truth to power, challenge injustice, corruption, and ineptitude, and demand transparency and accountability from all our elected officials. This unwavering commitment to good governance and accountability will persist, driving us to work tirelessly towards a better future for all.

In conclusion, I reiterate my commitment to this and other communal causes. I remain yours in struggle, composed, radical and unrepentant advocate.
