Ethiope-East Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Chief Augustine Ogedegbe has vowed that the pregnant woman shot dead by soldiers chasing suspected internet fraudsters, otherwise known as yahoo boys, will get justice.
Ogedegbe made the vow in a post on his Facebook timeline.
He also said the Council is taking necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the near future.
He expressed sadness over the death of the pregnant woman, describing it as a “painful” and ‘avoidable” one.
Ogedegbe who acknowledged the challenging responsibilities security personnel face in maintaining law and order.
He lamented that such incidents deviate from their core mandate of protecting lives and property.
According to him, “It is deeply concerning to see incidents like this, which diverge from the intended duties of combating crime and ensuring public safety.”
“We will pursue this issue with the seriousness it deserves and ensure that justice is served while taking the necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the future,” he assured.
Hon. Ogedegbe further appealed to the people of Abraka to remain calm and law-abiding as authorities engage relevant security agencies to ensure accountability and forestall a repeat of the tragedy.
In his message of condolence, Hon. Ogedegbe extended heartfelt sympathy to the family of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult period.
