President Tinubu Drops Big Promise For Nigerian Youths

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to embrace creativity, innovation, and bold ambition as they pursue relevance both nationally and globally.

The President delivered the charge on Tuesday in Abuja during the unveiling of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA GIGS) Platform and the Grant Award Ceremony organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu said the fast-changing, technology-driven world demands resilience and visionary thinking from young people. He assured that his administration remains committed to supporting innovative pursuits and expanding opportunities for young Nigerians.

The initiative, themed “One Youth, Two Skills,” will support 300 youths—200 from the formal sector and 100 from the informal sector, with grants to boost their entrepreneurial ventures.

“Youths are the heartbeat of our developmental agenda,” Tinubu said. “Build boldly, innovate courageously, scale fearlessly. You are the generation that will continue the task of building this nation.”

He expressed delight at potential international partnerships, including engagements with the UAE, and urged beneficiaries to channel their skills and energy toward national growth.

Tinubu highlighted ongoing regulatory reforms to ease the burdens on small businesses, streamline taxation, and expand access to consumer credit. He noted that interventions across technology, agriculture, manufacturing, the creative economy, and green energy are designed to give young Nigerians “multiple pathways to succeed.”

“All these interventions are shaped by one goal: to build an economy where the ambition of a young Nigerian is never limited by bureaucracy or lack of opportunity,” he added.

The President also emphasized the importance of the gig economy and digital outsourcing, describing the NIYA GIGS platform as a game-changing national channel for connecting young Nigerians to freelance opportunities globally.

“With the launch of NIYA GIGS, we are linking skills to markets, ideas to capital, and young people to real prosperity. The grant you are receiving today is not a prize; it is a vote of confidence from your nation,” he stated.

Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande described NIYA as a growing ecosystem designed to spotlight the brilliance and resourcefulness of young Nigerians. He disclosed that over 200 youth-led startups would receive ₦1 million each, while 100 beneficiaries from the informal sector would receive ₦500,000 to support their businesses.

“The NIYA GIG will open doors for Nigerian youths not just to survive, but to compete on a global scale,” the Minister said, commending the public-private collaborations that made the initiative possible.

In his goodwill message, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, hailed the launch as a strategic milestone in nurturing youth-led enterprises and deepening digital and vocational competencies nationwide.
