Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Reportedly Flees Damascus Amid Rebel Advance

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly fled Damascus as rebel forces entered the capital, marking a potential turning point after 13 years of civil war.

Reports of Assad’s departure emerged on Saturday, with opposition forces claiming victory and celebrating across the city.

Thousands of political prisoners have reportedly been freed from government detention centers, underscoring the collapse of Assad’s regime.

For over a decade, Assad has faced accusations of gross human rights violations by the United Nations and international organizations, including allegations of war crimes and the use of chemical weapons against civilians.

His regime has faced widespread criticism for its brutal suppression of dissent during the war, which began with protests in 2011 as part of the Arab Spring.

While official confirmation of Assad’s location remains unverified, rebel leaders described his departure as the “final collapse of tyranny” in Syria.

“This is a victory for the Syrian people who have endured unimaginable suffering for years,” a spokesperson for the opposition said.

Footage circulating on social media showed jubilant crowds in Damascus, waving revolutionary flags and chanting slogans calling for justice and reconstruction.
