Police Rearrest Seaking, TikToker Charged ‘For Insulting’ Tinubu, In Court

The Lagos state police command has rearrested Olumide Ogunsanwo, the TikToker better known as Seaking.

In December, Seaking was arrested and remanded by the magistrate court over alleged treason, cyberstalking, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The TikToker had shared a video on social media wherein he appeared to have insulted President Bola Tinubu, Babajide-Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor; and Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector general of police.

He was later granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like amount.

But in a statement on X, Inibehe Effiong, the human rights lawyer, disclosed that Seaking was rearrested at the magistrate court in Ogba on Thursday.

Effiong said they were at the court for the remand proceedings instituted by the police against the TikToker.

The lawyer said after the court session, Seaking was rearrested and taken to Ikeja police command and then flown to Abuja.

Effiong said the court had granted the application for bail on December 23 and ordered the police to forward a duplicate copy of the case file to the DPP for legal advice.

The human rights lawyer said the case had been adjourned to January 16, 2025, for a report of the DPP advice.

He said that on the same day, the prosecuting counsel was absent from court, which stalled the proceedings until February 6.

The lawyer said that during the proceedings on Thursday, the police prosecutor pleaded for adjournment “to enable them to file proof of compliance with the court’s order.”

The magistrate gave the police one week to file proof of compliance. The case was then adjourned till March 25, 2025.

Effiong tackled the police for rearresting Seaking after the court granted him bail.

“It is utterly condemnable that the same Nigeria Police Force that initiated an ongoing legal proceedings in Lagos would brazenly rearrest our client who is on bail granted by the court and move him to Abuja,” he wrote.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police to put an end to this outrageous charade and egregious abuse of the legal process and order the immediate release of Seaking.
