Police Ban Durbar Activities In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has placed a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, on Friday.

CP Bakori emphasized the importance of ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.

According to him, security assessments revealed growing tensions and potential threats associated with the Durbar.

“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” CP Bakori stated.

The Commissioner assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard the Eid prayers at designated grounds.

He urged worshippers to comply with security guidelines, including avoiding the carrying of unnecessary objects that could cause suspicion and strict prohibition of horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.

He also urged parents and guardians cautioning their children against being used by subversive elements and to adherence to public order to prevent breaches of peace.

“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” CP Bakori urged.

The Police Command also called for continued collaboration with security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The development comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, announced that he had halted plans for Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.

Earlier, Ado Bayero had written to the police for protection during the Sallah activities. But many had expressed concern over the likelihood of violence since the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also preparing for Sallah events.

Sanusi started preparations after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the directive.
