Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a woman, Rita Ughale, from Kokori community in Ethiope East Local Government Area, over the alleged sale of her two-month-old baby boy.
Police said the baby was sold for ₦1.5 million to a couple identified as Osas Omijie (39) and Judith Omijie (30).
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Warri. He said the woman and the couple are currently in police custody, while the baby has been rescued and is safe.
According to the police, the woman had earlier reported at the Ekpan Police Division on December 15, 2025, claiming that her baby was stolen during a robbery while she was travelling in a tricycle.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, deployed officers to investigate the case. However, police said inconsistencies in her story raised suspicion.
During further questioning, the woman reportedly confessed that the robbery story was false and admitted that she had sold the baby to the couple.
Police said investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to arrest other accomplices involved in the crime.
