The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Taiwo Yemitan, a 45-year-old suspected ritualist, who was found with a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
SP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, announced the arrest in a statement released on Sunday, explaining that Yemitan was apprehended around 1:40 am at his residence behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni, Abeokuta.
Acting on a tip-off from local security groups, including the Agbekoya and Vigilante operatives, police raided Yemitan’s home, where the gruesome discovery was made.
“The suspect admitted to knowing the deceased, identified as Darasimi, whom he lured to his residence with the intent to kill her.
“He confessed to the murder, implicating two accomplices—Kehinde Yemitan and one Kazeem (surname unknown). Their goal was to sell the victim’s head and body parts,” Odutola stated.
The dismembered remains have been transported to the Ijaye General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to track down Yemitan’s accomplices and locate the victim’s relatives.
Odutola further disclosed that Yemitan will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for a comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
She highlighted a disturbing trend, referencing a similar incident earlier in the year involving Azeez Adebayo, who confessed to killing three women lured through hookup arrangements.
“Adebayo and his syndicate targeted young women through a site called ‘MY CHAT,’ promising them large sums of money.
“After negotiating, the unsuspecting victims would visit the given address, unaware they were walking into a death trap,” Odutola explained
In a warning, Odutola cautioned young women against engaging in hookup activities, noting: “A high number of girls involved in hookup schemes are slaughtered for rituals.
“Be content and cautious. Your life is worth more than fleeting financial gain.”
She urged parents to remain vigilant, reinforcing the need for thorough guidance to prevent their daughters from falling victim to such heinous crimes.
“Women should utilise the positive aspects of social media to enhance their safety, rather than fall prey to its dangers,” Odutola advised.
