Police Arrest Man For Stabbing Brother To Death During Argument

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Gabriel Pius, for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Abu Simon, to death during a domestic altercation.

The incident reportedly occurred in Idanre, a town in the state, and was brought to the attention of the police by a family acquaintance.

Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.

“It is truly heartbreaking to witness a life cut short over a domestic disagreement. Our officers responded swiftly, and the suspect is now in custody as we pursue justice,” Lawal said.

He revealed that the case was reported on June 27, 2025, at approximately 8 pm, by one Gabriel Michael, who alerted authorities to the fatal conflict between the siblings.

Following his arrest by officers from the Idanre Division, Gabriel Pius was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further interrogation. Lawal confirmed that the suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police also announced the successful dismantling of a notorious four-man armed robbery syndicate operating across various towns in Ondo State.

The gang, alleged to have been involved in a series of violent robberies and car thefts in Akure, Owo, Ondo, and surrounding areas, was tracked and apprehended by the Tactical Intelligence and Response Squad following a robbery in Akure on June 27.

According to Lawal, two members of the syndicate were initially arrested outside the state, leading to the subsequent apprehension of two accomplices, one of whom is identified as a known fence for stolen property.

“Preliminary findings indicate that this group is linked to a broader network specialising in vehicle snatching and illegal trafficking,” he added.

Recovered items include a stolen vehicle and several mobile phones. The police have stated that efforts are ongoing to retrieve additional stolen property and to arrest other suspects still at large, including an alleged arms supplier believed to play a central role in the gang’s operations.
