Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) have arraigned Lawal Johnson, before the Federal High Court, Lagos, over alleged cyberbullying the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo).
Johnson was docked before Justice Deinde Dipeolu in a two-count charge marked FHC/L/724c/2025.
An aide to the NURTW President alleged that Johnson is the person behind the social media account bearing “Olus Bolkas,” used to publish disparaging materials against Akinsanya.
The prosecutor, S.A. Adebesin, told the court that the offences were committed between July and August 2025, at Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
According to Adebesin, the defendant and others still at large allegedly used his social media handle to send voice and video messages in which he called the complainant several “unprintable names.”
Johnson was further alleged to have intentionally subjected Akinsanya to ridicule, insult, injury, enmity, hatred, ill will, emotional and psychological abuse.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 24 (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended in 2024), and Section 14 (1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.
The charge partly reads: “That you, Lawal Johnson ‘m’, and others at large, sometimes in July/August 2025 at Oshodi/Isolo Local Govt Area of Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did knowingly and intentionally send voice and video messages through your social media handle via your phone number: 07069981199 and other outlets to disparage, ridicule, insult, ill will and cause criminal intimidation to the person of one Musiliu Akinsanya ‘m’, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 24 (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015 as amended in 2024.”
When the charges were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer informed the court that a bail application had been filed and served on the prosecution.
Adebesin confirmed service and stated that he was not opposing the application.
Justice Dipeolu subsequently granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum, among other conditions.
The defendant will, however, remain in custody until the bail terms are perfected.
The case was adjourned till October 15 for trial.
