Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, met with the leadership of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, to discuss Nigeria’s pressing challenges and pathways to national unity.
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Oba Oladipo Olaitan, who also heads a coalition of ethnic nationality groups including PANDEF and the Middle Belt Forum, explored critical issues such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
Obi praised Afenifere for its “courage and unwavering commitment to fearless justice and the unity of Nigeria,” urging the group to remain steadfast in advocating for equity and fairness across the federation.
“We had a useful and extensive discussion about the current state of our country, particularly in education, health, and pulling people out of poverty,” Obi said after the meeting. “I remain committed to an all-inclusive, united Nigeria where no part will be left behind. A new Nigeria is possible.”
The engagement is seen as part of Obi’s ongoing consultations with key regional and socio-political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections, as he continues to champion a vision of a more equitable and inclusive Nigeria.
