People Conspired Against Me, Thought They Had Won — Defence Minister

The Minister for Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), has recounted how divine intervention shaped his journey to national leadership.

He says God lifted him at a time when circumstances appeared stacked against him.

Musa shared the testimony during a recent service at the Conquerors Global Assembly in Abuja, as monitored by Church Times and shared on its website on Sunday, in a video later shared on social media.

The minister attended the service alongside his wife and thanked the founder of the church, Bishop David Abioye, and his wife.

He also offered prayers for the continued growth of the ministry.

Addressing the congregation, Musa urged worshippers not to lose hope, saying, “because we serve a living God. He will never give up on us.”

Reflecting on recent events in his life, he said, “We give God the glory for what has happened this year. Even when the enemy thought they were putting us down, they did not know God was going to lift us up. In their small mind they conspired and thought they had won. But as long as you have God as your pillar you will win.”

The defence minister, who described Abioye as a close ally, said challenges were necessary for growth, noting that adversity builds strength.

He said, “If you are never challenged you can never improve in life. As Nigerians, we know we are strong but we are stronger together with God Almighty. Nigerians are winners. We must continue to pray for our leaders and our country.”

Musa also cautioned against negative narratives about the country, warning that persistent criticism undermines national progress.

He said, “If you continue to talk down on your country you don’t mean well.”

The minister further called on Christians to practise what they profess, stressing that impact comes from living out one’s beliefs.

Tinubu, on December 2, nominated Musa, who was the-then former Chief of Defence Staff as Minister of Defence, a decision conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio announcing him as the replacement for Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on health grounds, with the President expressing confidence in Musa’s ability to lead the ministry and strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.
