Oyo FA Bans Sports Journalist Over False Match-Fixing Allegations Against Shooting Stars

The Oyo State Football Association (OYSFA) has handed a one-year ban to Yoruba sports caster and Prince FM 88.7 staff member, Shola Ayegbajeje, over false match-fixing allegations against the management and players of Shooting Stars.

The sanction was announced in a letter by the association’s secretary, Kehinde Ojelowo, following a disciplinary hearing at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan.

During the hearing, Ayegbajeje admitted that the allegations were entirely false and fabricated.

He confessed that his claims on a live radio program were influenced by frustration over the team’s recent poor performance.

He said his statements were β€œgenerated by his emotional distress as a result of Shooting Stars’ recent poor run of form in the league.”

As part of the disciplinary measures, the OYSFA instructed Ayegbajeje to issue a written apology to the Shooting Stars management and to sign an undertaking committing to refrain from any actions that could tarnish the image of football in the state.
