Over 50 armed bandits attacked three communities of Kaiwa, Gebbeband Gelawa in Shanghai local government area of Kebbi State and killed eight people.
According to a source, the attackers were on motorcycles, in large numbers and launched the attack innocent souls simultaneously.
He explained that some residents were able to flee to the nearby bushes when they saw the bandits, but some were unable to escape.
He said, “We saw them riding into our community, and immediately, people began to run for safety, but some were not so lucky. They killed more than eight people and abducted an unspecified number of others.”
As they kept shooting from all directions, he stated that panic spread among the residents, forcing many of them to flee to neighbouring villages and surrounding bushes of.
He explained that the attack on Gebbe was unprecedented, saying that the community had not witnessed such attacks in recent years.
He stated that it is difficult to ascertain the exact number of casualties from the Sunday night attack, adding that many residents remained displaced.
The Police Spokesman of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident, saying security agencies had launched coordinated operations in the affected areas.
He confirmed that seven people were initially reported dead across Gebbe, Kaiwa, and Gelawa, while an additional victim later died while receiving treatment.
