NYSC Warns Prospective Corps Members Against Presenting Fake Academic, Medical Certificates

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course to present only genuine academic and personal documents at registration or risk prosecution.

GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Orientation Course will commence across all camps on Wednesday, 24th September, 2025, with registration closing by midnight of Friday, 26th September, 2025.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Friday, 26th September, while the closing ceremony holds on Tuesday, 14th October, 2025.

However, the Kwara State camp will run a special schedule from Tuesday, 30th September to Monday, 20th October, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, which was shared on the Scheme’s official Facebook page, the NYSC reminded prospective corps members of its zero-tolerance stance on forgery and malpractice.

“On no account should prospective Corps Members present fake documents for registration. Anyone who does so will be apprehended, handed over to law enforcement and duly prosecuted,” the DG said

The Scheme also emphasised that graduates of monotechnics and polytechnics must, in addition to their other credentials, present their National Diploma certificates as part of camp registration requirements.

Foreign-trained graduates were also reminded to report to camp with their international passports and the original copies of all uploaded documents.

“Foreign-trained graduates are required to come along with their International Passports and original copies of all uploaded credentials. This is a non-negotiable requirement,” the statement said.

On travel safety, the NYSC strongly discouraged night journeys, urging Corps Members to prioritise their lives above time.

“Once it is 6pm, all prospective Corps Members are enjoined to break their journeys and pass the night at the nearest military barracks, police station, NYSC Secretariat or Corps Lodge,” the DG advised.

“We cannot overemphasise this: NYSC strongly discourages night journeys.”

PCMs were further urged to patronise only vehicles from government-approved motor parks to reduce the risk of falling prey to criminals.

The management also addressed cases of lost call-up letters. “In the event of any loss, those who collected theirs from their institutions should obtain a police report and sworn affidavit before reporting to their schools for necessary action. Those who printed online can simply reprint,” the NYSC clarified.

The Corps warned that defaulters and impersonators would not be spared.

“Any person who fails to report for service as directed in the call-up letter shall be prosecuted in line with the NYSC Act. Likewise, anyone who has previously obtained a Certificate of Service or Exemption but attempts to re-enlist will also face prosecution,” Brig.-Gen. Nafiu stressed.

Special considerations were, however, announced for certain categories including married, pregnant, and nursing mothers posted outside their husbands’ states who may be considered to serve where their spouses reside.

In order to validate such claims, NYSC said they must present proof of marriage, acceptable identification of their husbands, and evidence of residence.

Furthermore, medical and health-related graduates were required to present evidence of registration with their professional bodies before registration at camp.
