The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command has arrested eight teenagers for alleged conspiracy, sexual abuse and unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl at the Ijebu-Mushin, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspects are Matthew Omotayo, age 17 Mojeeb Solomon, 16 years; Olamilekan Adefuye, 18 years; Damilola Ismail, 19 years; Emmanuel George, 17 years; Aborisade Ayomide, 17 years; Paul Chukwuchebe, 19 years and 16 -years old Lateef Adeoye.
The arrest was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dyke Ogbonnaya and obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday.
Ogbonnaya noted that the incident occurred on Friday, November 15th, 2024.
He explained that the suspects contravened sections 32 and 33 of the Child Rights Law of Ogun State 2006 for allegedly assaulting and gang-raping a minor while also filming the same in a permanent form for possible blackmail.
According to him, the suspects who confessed to be students of St. Anthony Grammar School, Esure, Ijebu-Mushin, Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state took the teenager without consent to a secluded room and had violent sexual intercourse with her and put the same event in a video form.
He said, ” According to the teenager, she was sexually abused the first time and was recorded and the alleged suspects threatened to upload the video on social media if she did not allow them to have her again which she also consented to until she resolved to report the matter to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Divisional Office at Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State.
Ogbonnaya stated that upon the information, two of the suspects were arrested leading to the trail and arrest of other members of the gang.
He added that after getting the consent of the mother of the teenager, she was made to undergo a medical procedure at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, SARC, at the Olabisi Onabajo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
The spokesperson disclosed that the results of the investigation culminated in the application for a remand order by the State Command’s legal officer through the magistrate court in Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State.
The Magistrate granted the prayer of the Civil Defence legal officer to remand the suspects for 60 days pending the outcome of the advice from the Department of Public Prosecution and he thereafter adjourned the matter to the 20th of January, 2025.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo maintained that the Corps will not put up with any mistreatment of a girl child either by their fellow teenagers, caregivers, guardians or parents.
She stressed that anyone found guilty of such a deplorable act will face severe consequences in accordance with the law.
