NLC, TUC Threaten To Disrupt Economic Activities Over Emergency Rule In Rivers

Organised labour in Rivers state has threatened to embark on “strategic union actions” that could disrupt national economic activities if President Bola Tinubu does not reverse the emergency rule imposed on the state.

In a joint statement signed by leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers, the unions said the emergency rule has affected the payment of workers’ salaries.

On March 18, Tinubu declared emergency rule in the oil-rich state over the political crisis and instability in the state.

He also suspended Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state; his deputy, Ngozi Odu; and all members of the Rivers assembly for an initial period of six months.
