The Coordinator of the Nigerian Institution of Surveying and Geoinformatics Students (NISGS), Southwest Zone, UTHMAN TAIWO USMAN, has officially announced the forthcoming 3rd NISGS Southwest Zonal Convention and Conference, a landmark gathering of surveying and geoinformatics students across the Southwestern region of Nigeria.
The much-anticipated event is scheduled to hold from December 14th to 17th, 2025, at the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) Multipurpose Hall, Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking on the convention, UTHMAN TAIWO USMAN described the event as āa platform to ignite vision, strengthen mentorship, and raise a generation of surveyors ready to compete globally.ā He emphasized that the program aims to bridge the gap between campus learning and professional practice, equipping young surveyors with the knowledge, leadership, and innovative drive needed for sustainable professional excellence.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS AND ACTIVITIES
The four-day convention will feature a blend of academic, professional, and social engagements that reflect the passion, innovation, and creativity of young surveyors. Key highlights include:
* Friendly Football Match – The convention will open with a friendly football match on December 14th, 2025, to foster unity, teamwork, and networking among participants.
* Conference Sessions and Technical Presentations – Distinguished professionals and scholars will lead insightful discussions on the theme in respect to “Academics and Research”, “Professional Practice” and “Civil Service”.
* Launching of the 1st NISGS Southwest Calendar – A creative publication capturing the faces, milestones, and essence of surveying students and leadership across the zone.
* Inter-Campus Debate/Quiz Competition – Institutions across the Southwest will engage in an intellectually charged contest on topics targeted at “Technical/Academic Focus”, “Professional Practice & Ethics” and “Societal & Environmental Relevance”.
* Electoral Transition and Zonal Election – The 2025 NISGS Southwest Zonal Election will take place on December 16th, 2025, where new leaders will emerge to continue the mission of student empowerment and professional growth.
* Congress and Adoption of the Southwest Zone Bylaw – Delegates will deliberate on key reforms and governance processes that will shape the next phase of NISGS Southwest operations.
* Dinner and Award Night – A glamorous evening designed to recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals, institutions, and professionals who have contributed to the growth of the surveying profession.
* Tour to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) – An educational and cultural experience aimed at inspiring participants through history, leadership, and innovation.
