Nigeria Policewoman, Ukah Defeat Niedermayr To Win First Ever PFL Africa Bout

Nigerian mixed martial artist Juliet Ukah has won the first ever PFL Africa bout, defeating South Africa’s Ceileigh Niedermayr by unanimous decision in their women’s strawweight showcase at the inaugural PFL Africa event in Cape Town.

The 26-year-old policewoman extended her undefeated career record to 7-0 with a commanding performance that saw all three judges score the contest 30-27 in her favour at the Grand Arena, GrandWest on Saturday night.

Ukah’s victory marked a historic moment for African mixed martial arts, as she became the first fighter to secure a win in PFL’s debut event on the continent.

The evening also featured several dramatic finishes, with Nigeria’s Joffie Houlton advancing in the heavyweight tournament after defeating Abdoulaye Kane by first-round disqualification following an illegal knee to a grounded opponent just 40 seconds into their contest.

Houlton, who improved his record to 8-4, will now face Abraham Bably in the semifinals after the London-based Ivorian knocked out Paul-Emmanuel Gnaze in the first round at 4:59.

In the bantamweight division, Zimbabwe’s Simbarashe Hokonya maintained his undefeated record at 6-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Frans Mlambo, as South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele advanced with a first-round TKO victory over Egypt’s Mahmoud Atef at 4:50, extending his knockout tally to six in nine career victories.

Africa’s Justin Clarke, who secured a first-round TKO victory over Jashell Ticha Awa, and Cameroon’s Maxwell Djantou Nana, who defeated Mickael Groguhe by unanimous decision.

In the bantamweight division, Algeria’s Karim Henniene preserved his undefeated 5-0 record with a split decision victory over Asiashu Tshitamba, whilst Angola’s Boule Godogo returned from a lengthy layoff to defeat Shannon van Tonder by split decision.

Ukah’s participation underscored the growing presence of African fighters in global MMA competitions, with the Nigeria Police Force officer establishing herself as one of the continent’s most promising female prospects.

Following the PFL Africa action, the evening continued with the PFL Champions Series Road to Dubai card, which saw former Bellator light heavyweight champion Corey Anderson defeat 2024 PFL heavyweight champion Denis Goltsov by second-round TKO.

The successful launch of PFL Africa marks a significant milestone for mixed martial arts on the continent, with Ukah’s historic victory serving as the perfect opening statement for the tournament’s future.
